About

Why WatchLyst exists.

Streaming solved access. Nobody solved taste. WatchLyst is a bet that the fix is personal, fast, and yours.

The idea

A canon built in minutes, not logged over years.

Every film app that tries to know your taste asks you to work for it first: rate hundreds of titles, write reviews, keep a diary. Most people never start, and the ones who do are a small, devoted few.

WatchLyst starts from a different question. What if the whole thing took the time it takes to flip through a stack of posters? One card, one instinct, next. Four of the five gestures place a film in your canon on the spot; the fifth tells the engine what you haven't seen. A few minutes in, you have a list of what to watch next that is actually about you.

That is the compression claim, and it is the thing we are testing first, with real numbers, in the pre-beta.

From the founder

A note from Joshua.

I'm Joshua Lasater. I built WatchLyst because I was tired of scrolling, and I'm sure you are too. Every night ended the same way: twenty minutes through the same menus, a film I'd already seen, or nothing at all.

The apps that promised to fix it wanted a decade of ratings first. I didn't want a leaderboard. I wanted something that learned my taste as fast as I could react, and then put the right film in front of me. That's the whole product. Everything else, the Face-Offs, the Lysts, the engine under it, exists to serve that one outcome.

WatchLyst is made by Jomala LLC, a small Minnesota company I run. If you have thoughts, or a film I should see, write to me at support@watchlyst.app. I read everything.

Our data

Built on TMDB.

Every poster, every cast list, every fact about a film in WatchLyst comes from TMDB, The Movie Database, a film database built and kept by its community since 2008 and used under license. The engine turns that data into a picture of each film, then compares every film against your taste. Without TMDB there is no WatchLyst, and we say so gladly.

TMDB, The Movie DatabaseThis website and the WatchLyst app use TMDB and the TMDB APIs but are not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.
